Rebekka Härkönen (b. 1976) has worked as a journalist for two decades, about half of which as a crime and legal journalist in various media. She currently works at MTV News. Härkönen has been awrded the Great Journalist award, Lumipallo award and News Media Finland’s Story of the year for her work as a journalist.
Härkönen’s first novel and the opening of the Walta detective series, Prinsessamekko (2023), was awarded the Debut Detective novel of the Year honorable mention by the The Finnish Whodunnit Society. The Walta detective stories are set in the newsroom of a newspaper in Helsinki. The main character is Suuna Walta, a crime reporter who investigates crimes and their backgrounds and has an unfailing sense of news. The second part of the series, Pihtiote, was published in October 2023, and the third part, Hyväntekijät, will be published in February 2025. Härkönen has also published the non-fiction book Valmis tappamaan, kaksinkertaisen elinkautisvangin tarina (Deadline Kustannus, 2021). She has also created the popular Sarjahukuttaja podcast.
